My Granny’s cake, Tastes Like Cheesecake But Cheaper

This sour cream cake recipe is a super easy dessert and it tastes like cheesecake. My grandma and her friends created this easy dessert recipe. The origin story of this simple sour cream cake recipe is that she and her friends wanted to make something similar to cheesecake but cheaper. In Hungary, we usually make cheesecake from quark (túró). But that can be a bit expensive.

My grandma switched quark to sour cream and made a new easy dessert recipe. For my version, I used fromage blanc but I originally planned to make it with crème fraîche. I think I will try to recreate it with fromage blanc and crème fraîche as well.

Hope you will try it and like it. It was one of my favorite cakes as a child. We always requested this cake from grandma.

Happy baking!
